FASHBAK: Paris Haute Couture 1955-1979

Picture 2 of 9

The words which flowed out of Paris during the couture openings weeks ago now are translated into pictures. The French design houses carefully guard their pictures until an agreed-upon date each season. During this period of suspense, fashion-minded readers draw pictures in their minds, to fit the descriptions. Here are some of the designs from leading houses. Oversized sleeves, to minimize the waistline, are one of the new themes in the Jacques Fath collection, August 26, 1955. They appear in this green satin cocktail gown, called “Nathalie”. The sleeves billow out from a banded décolletage shirred over the shoulders. (AP Photo)
